Introduction
DevShare is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our VS Code extension for secure secret sharing between developers.
Information We Collect
DevShare is designed with privacy at its core. We collect minimal information necessary to provide our service:
- GitHub Account: Your GitHub username and public profile information for identity verification
- Public Keys: Cryptographic public keys generated on your device for end-to-end encryption
- Usage Analytics: Anonymous, aggregated usage statistics to improve the service
Information We Do NOT Collect
DevShare is built with a zero-knowledge architecture. We explicitly do not collect or store:
- Your secrets, API keys, or environment variables
- The content of any messages or code snippets you share
- Private keys or decryption keys
- Any plaintext data that passes through our relay servers
How We Protect Your Data
Security is fundamental to DevShare. We implement the following measures:
- End-to-End Encryption: All secrets are encrypted on your device before transmission
- Client-Side Encryption: Encryption and decryption happen exclusively on your device
- No Central Storage: We do not store your encrypted data on our servers
- Open-Source Cryptography: We use well-audited, open-source cryptographic libraries
Third-Party Services
DevShare integrates with the following third-party services:
- GitHub: For user authentication and identity verification
- VS Code Marketplace: For extension distribution and updates
These services have their own privacy policies that govern their data handling practices.
Data Retention
Since we do not store your secrets or encrypted content, there is no data to retain. Public keys associated with your GitHub account are retained only while your account is active and are deleted upon account removal.
